    I just posted the photo on the left but when I posted it I thought I don't want people to think this is what I look like because I don't. I was tensing hard and posing. My legs aren't actually that slim it's just a result of me pushing my hips back and my hips and waist don't actually look that small. I always want to be honest with people and don't want them to look at my account and think I'm in any way perfect, because let's face it none of us are.     Welcome to week 2 of ! Every Monday, I will highlight a non-pilates rehab exercise which Kim @studiofocuspilates will translate directly to one of the pilates apparatus! . Today's exercise, the lateral step-down, is a movement that is often dysfunctional in those with chronic knee pain, ACL injuries, and other lower extremity injuries. It is also often apparent in cases of back and hip pain. . The lateral step-down challenges lower extremity strength, pelvic stability, foot and ankle stability, core stability, and probably most importantly the ability to eccentrically control or decelerate the weight of the body. . Synchronized firing of the involved muscle groups (core, glutes, abductors, adductors, quads, hamstrings, muscles of the lower leg and foot) is important for optimal movement to occur; if one or more areas are weak/stiff/unstable, one will often note a tipping of the hips, the supporting knee falling inwards and/or the ankle pronating - to name a few. . It is therefore an excellent exercise to both assess areas of weakness in the kinetic chain, as well as to train proper neuromuscular activation of the muscles surrounding the ankle, knee and hip. . 🔺Begin standing on a step or stable ledge, the unaffected leg extended outside. Spine is neutral with sitting bones pointing straight down. Abdominals scooped in and up. 🔺Lift arch of supporting foot slightly, maintaining contact of all toes down and into step. Feel the connection running from the big toe lifting up along inner thighs, and from heel pulling up back of legs to glutes. Quads are lifting kneecaps straight up. 🔺Maintain pressure of all toes down into step and keep pulling front-, back- and inner thighs up as the knee bends slightly, ca 45 degrees. Allow the hips to hinge gently forward, maintaining neutral spine. 🔺Avoid the arch of the foot/ the knee falling in - actively use glutes to press knee slightly out and in line with the second toe. After being vegetarian for awhile, a couple of months ago I finally made up my mind to go completely vegan. ✌🏼I made a slow transition since I did not want to stress and shock my body so I decided gradually to eliminate milk, eggs, diary from my diet. I’ve always been told that milk is good for your bones and health, that particular types of species such as cows, pigs and chickens are meant to be eaten by humans in order to get your protein and eggs contain a lot of vitamins. I was oblivious and I never even once questioned the story I was told until that one night I got an epiphany. I was thirsty to know the truth so I did not stop researching, reading online and watching documentaries. The brutal TRUTH was out there but I was just ignorant all those years. 😩I knew I had to make a change with myself. I knew that what we, humans, are doing is just a tradition and based on culture but not every tradition is moral and ethical. Many people were against my decision and told me that I will be deficient in vitamins, protein, that I will feel sick and that it is too extreme to be vegan. But I wanted to try and here I am feeling more ALIVE, THRIVING and LIVE and KICKING, but also HEALTHIER than ever! This was the best decision that I made in my life! . . Your body is not a graveyard for animals, lovies. We do not need to kill innocent beings to thrive. It is NOT NECESSARY. I am vegan because I want to do more than just SAY that I love animals. Animals are here WITH us, not FOR us. We are together in this. 🙌🏼 It is about time to consider our food choices and change our perspective on how we look at our food.
